Yesterday I was truly humbled by my four year old. While at the fete where Jos showed his archery prowess, Reuben also wanted to shop and he was drawn to what I can only term the junkie table. More specifically he went back time and time again to look at a little old fashioned black and white porcelain dog. I had about R18's worth of tickets left and as we were killing time waiting for Jos to finish at the archery stall, I gave these to Reuben. He immediately ran off to the table and bought the little dog. He even got change. What was so incredible and brought tears to my eyes was his excitement and joy over something so small and insignificant. He was overjoyed at the chance to go back and shop some more. I think these photos say it all. I realised how ungrateful I am and how I just take things for granted. I was reminded of the words of Jesus:
“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you
will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like
this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a
little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
(Matt.18:3-5 NIV)
